In May this year, we were lucky enough to be given tickets for some of our families to attend the Dreamnight event at Drusillas Park!
About Dreamnight
Dreamnight is an after-hours event exclusively for the families of children with chronic illnesses and disabilities to enjoy a special night of feel-good fun and laughter. It is the most wonderful opportunity for our families to make precious memories together and enjoy an evening out, free from the constraints of financial worries which can be such a burden for families facing childhood cancer.
Excitement building
The excitement levels in the queue outside the park as everyone waited to be admitted was palpable. The children from CWCF as well as all the others invited by other charities couldn’t wait to get inside and join in the fun!
Once inside the park, the whole of Drusillas was open for exploration. There was the zoo, rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, splash pad (although the weather wasn’t really being kind enough for that) and arcade games. All the additional extras, which are usually paid for, were available for free including the climbing wall, inflatable slide and panning for gold.
Lots of amazing companies donated time, food and gifts to make the evening extra magical for the children. Defiant Sports came along to run sports workshops, there were character meet and greets, therapy animals to interact with, toy tombolas, BBQ, ice-creams, temporary tattoos and more….
Smiles
The smiles on the faces of the children didn’t falter for a moment and it was simply a joy to witness. It was equally lovely to see relaxed parents and carers, safe in the knowledge that they could say “YES” to everything and allow their children the space to explore with friends and try any activity their heart desired!
Thank you
Thank you so much to Drusillas Park for inviting us along for the evening and allowing our children and families the opportunity to enjoy a joyful, carefree evening of pure fun. And of course, thank you to all the staff and volunteers who came together to make it all possible.
Events like this are really a lifeline for families in the darkest moments of cancer treatment and giving them a chance to take part in something normal can make all the difference.
It was truly an evening that dreams are made of!
