The annual Run to Run along the Cuckoo Trail in aid of Children with Cancer Fund (Polegate) took place on Saturday 31st May.

158 runners and walkers of all ages and abilities lined up in Polegate to take part in this fun run across the three distances on offer: the mini mile, 5K and 10K.

The Deputy Mayor of Polegate, Stephen Shing was on hand to start the races as well as present the medals to all completers. The presence of the Rapid Relief Team, who provided snacks and drinks to the runners, and Chaffin Works, who marshalled the route and provided first aiders, ensured the event ran without a hitch.

There was a fantastic, supportive atmosphere throughout the morning and the sun didn’t stop shining, which made for some hot conditions for the runners, but they certainly didn’t let that stop them as they made their way along the course.

Jamie Heading, 2nd place finisher in the 5K, said of the day: “It was a beautifully organised event for a truly powerful cause. Watching people of all abilities show up, give their best and support each other was incredibly moving. You could really feel the strength of the community coming together to stand behind children and families facing cancer. Events like this remind us what solidarity looks like in action.”

This year saw more runners and walkers taking part than ever before and Run to Run 2025 has already raised over £4,000, with some sponsorship money still coming in, greatly surpassing the total raised last year.

Children with Cancer Fund said: “It was truly humbling to see so many people from the local community come together to support the work we do with children with cancer. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and to our volunteers and partners who supported us along the way. This event is going from strength to strength; a trend we hope to see continue.

The amount raised is truly outstanding and will go a long way in helping our small team continue to make a big difference in the lives of children with cancer.”

Children with Cancer Fund is a local charity based in Willingdon, which supports children and families facing childhood cancer in East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. The money raised at this event will be used to continue their vital work.
