Fun and Laughter at Hailsham Leisure Centre

On the 24th of January, we had the absolute joy of treating a group of wonderful families to an evening of fun, laughter, and precious memories at Freedom Leisure in Hailsham. Living with childhood cancer often means hospital visits, treatments, and routines that can be physically and emotionally exhausting for the whole family. That’s why moments of carefree enjoyment matter so much — and this night was all about giving families the chance to simply have fun together.

Splashes and Smiles in the Pool

For a lot of our families, the evening’s adventures began in the pool, which our families enjoyed exclusive access to. Children floated, splashed, and enjoyed racing and playing with their friends in the water, as well as making use of the flume. Parents joined in too, enjoying the chance to relax and unwind together. For some families, it was the first time in months that they had been able to enjoy a swim without worry.

Friendly Competition in the Bowling Alley

Families also headed to the bowling lanes for a bit of friendly competition! Some discovered hidden bowling talents, while others celebrated their very first strike. The smiles were contagious, and the atmosphere was full of high fives, happy shouts, and playful rivalry between siblings and parents.

Soft Play Adventures

The younger members of our group immersed themselves in the colourful world of soft play, where the excited little ones climbed and explored with endless energy. For the parents, the biggest joy was watching their children laugh freely — something daily treatment schedules don’t always leave time for.

A Break from the Everyday

Events like this are more than just fun outings. They give families space to reconnect and to create new memories that aren’t overshadowed by illness. They remind children that joy still belongs to them, even in the middle of a difficult journey.

Thank you to the team at Freedom Leisure were fantastic with our families, making them feel welcomed from the moment they stepped into the building. To help families continue making happy memories after the event finished, Freedom Leisure gifted each family a voucher to return another time for bowling and swimming at a time that suits them, an unexpected and much appreciated gesture.
