Easter Fun at Abbots Wood

We had a fantastic afternoon in the glorious sunshine at Abbots Wood on the weekend after Easter. We gathered lots of our families, over 70 people in total, to have a picnic, Easter Egg hunt and play games.

On arrival, we were able to pay the parking for all our families to avoid them having to worry about any additional stress and so they could get on with relaxing and enjoying the afternoon. After everyone had settled themselves down with their picnic blankets and chairs, we served a delicious picnic lunch for our families to all get stuck into. It went down and treat with plenty coming back for more, which is what we want to see!

There were games aplenty throughout the afternoon, both provided by us and ones our families had brought along for all to share. The children were in their element! They were naturally forming into large groups, with den building, football, archery and swing ball just some of the activities going on. It was lovely to see the existing relationships the children have formed with each other on display as well as new bond and connections forming through the day.

While the children were having so much fun playing, the parents and carers were given the opportunity to simply relax and chat with each other or, of course, to join in with the action!

A bit later, we announced the start of the Easter Egg hunt and our families eagerly set off into the nearby woodland trails on the search for colourful images of eggs. We could hear whoops of excitement and shouts of laughter emanating from the trees as eggs were searched for and subsequently discovered. Once all had found an egg, they came racing back to the van to swap their picture for one of the many chocolate eggs on offer.

Many thanks go to the amazing donors who gifted us so many Easter Eggs that not only were the children able to choose eggs, but we were also able to offer them to the adults too. This was such a brilliant thing as we feel it is vitally important for parents and carers to be treated too.

Eventually, after a long afternoon of fun and games we packed up and headed home. But some of our families had been having such a great time that they decided to stay even longer. In our opinion, this is the sign of a truly successful event, when the families have been having so much fun and enjoying each other’s company so much that they don’t want to leave!
