We had a fantastic time at the Eastbourne Carnival on Saturday 24th June. The grey skies certainly didn’t put us off, or any of the other carnival entrants and the streets of Eastbourne were full of fun and sunshine!
Christmas Comes Early
With the theme of this year’s carnival being “Celebrations of the World”, we decided to represent every child’s favourite celebration on the Children with Cancer Fund float and bring Christmas to Eastbourne a little bit early.
C J Thorne Partnership
Massive thanks go to C J Thorne for donating the low loader for our float and for decking it out beautifully in festive inflatables. Despite the windy weather, and a few small problems along the way, the inflatables held up brilliantly and looked fantastic! The lovely C J Thorne team even went the extra mile and turned up in Christmas costumes, so the float was accompanied by a reindeer and elves amongst others. Thank you to Andy and Sarah, Sandy (who made the most amazing Santa driving the float), Chris and Kaz, Alex and Colleen for providing the music and Bernie and Richard for generously loaning us the use of the inflatables.
Incredible Volunteers
We couldn’t write about the Carnival without thanking our incredible volunteers who answered our call for people to walk alongside the float on the day! They put up with the wind and rain in their determination to represent our charity and they did an outstanding job, as always! We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers, and we are immensely grateful to them for everything.
Good News
At the end of a long afternoon, we were thrilled to be awarded a Highly Commended rosette by the Mayor of Eastbourne. The good news kept coming, as in the public vote in the week after the carnival we were voted in 3rd place for the Best Float. This was a wonderful outcome and we are so pleased the spectators enjoyed our display.
The whole day was truly a team effort! Thank you to everyone who made it happen!
