What are the benefits of volunteering with Children with Cancer Fund?

Children with Cancer Fund (CWCF) is looking to recruit volunteers to help with fundraising events, from collecting pennypots, to greeting people and acting as a steward.

Over the years our work has supported children up to the age of 18 and their families through childhood cancer, from granting wishes through to coordinating fun family events in the community. Everyone who has been involved with the charity knows that our volunteers are crucial to running our fundraisers so that we can fund our services for our families. So what’s in it for you?

Get out into the community

By volunteering with our charity, you will see first-hand how our community works together, and you will find meaningful engagement in the fundraising process. Our fundraisers often take place in beautiful locations across East Sussex, including the Arlington Bluebell Walk, The Cuckoo trail in Polegate, and Eastbourne Carnival on the seafront. We ensure that our volunteers leave fundraisers remembering a fun day out with stunning scenery and good company as well as the contribution they made to the smooth running of the event. You will have the chance to try some delicious homemade cakes at our cake sale in Follers Manor, have a dance to the live bands at Eastbourne Carnival, and watch the spectacular airshow at Airbourne Eastbourne.

Gain new skills

Whether you want to get back in the job market or want to build up your confidence, volunteering with us can also provide you with skills and experience that are invaluable to the workplace. Volunteering with us means reaching new goals and getting involved in new experiences. Our office volunteers have learnt how to use new technologies and platforms such as Canva to create infographics, and gained experience in the use of Microsoft office and all its platforms. Our field volunteers develop their networking skills by making connections with those who come to our fundraising events, they develop their creativity with decorations on our awareness stalls, and learn to manage their time through prioritizing a list of tasks which we may ask you to do on the day of a fundraiser.

What do current volunteers say?

Our volunteers voices are forefront to our charity, with current volunteer Helen offering her unique input into our Newsletter, below she summarises her experience volunteering with us:

“I have had the pleasure of volunteering with CWCF since last August.

My role has been to edit and produce a hard copy newsletter for the team to hand out at fundraising and our sponsored events.  I have been given so much encouragement and help from the team.  I really look forward to my weekly sessions in the office and have met so many new people.  We are a real family and I have been accepted and valued.

There are so many different volunteering roles and even if you have only a little time to spare, you will be made to feel so welcome.  Why not give us a try?”

Get outside, be part of something special, have fun and meet some amazing people!

If you would like to join the CWCF volunteer crew please call the office on 01323 488561 or email fundraising@childrenwithcancerfund.org.uk to register your interest.
